- International Cooperation
The Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture (the Department) is one of the main institutions responsible for international relations in the field of cultural heritage protection. During the years of independence of Lithuania, the Department has been actively cooperating with international governmental and non-governmental cultural heritage organizations: Council of Europe, UNESCO, ICCROM, ICOMOS, Baltic Sea regional network (Monitoring Group on Cultural Heritage in the Baltic Sea Region). The Department is also represented in such organizations as Reflection Group "EU and Cultural Heritage", EHHL (European Heritage Heads Forum http://www.ehhf.eu/), EHLF (European Heritage Legal Forum http://www.ehhf.eu/node/151), EAC (European Archaeological Council http://european-archaeological-council.org/).
Seeking the efficient protection of heritage, the Department has been developing bilateral and multilateral cooperation with cultural heritage institutions of neighbouring countries. The exchange of useful information, theoretical knowledge and practical experience of experts from different countries is especially useful and important in protecting cultural heritage in Europe and preserving it for future generations.
