1986 graduated from the 9th secondary school in Vilnius
1986-1991 studies at the Vilnius University, Faculty of History
1991-1992 - Junior researcher, the Centre of Cultural Heritage.
1992-1993 - Senior historian and head of historians' group at the Centre of Cultural Heritage.
1993-1995 - Senior inspector and head of Historical monuments division at the Cultural Heritage Inspection.
1995-1997 - Senior specialist, the National Commission of Monuments' Protection.
1997-2005 - Director of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Properties under the Ministry of Culture.
Since 2005 – a part-time lecturer at the Vilnius University Faculty of History: the teaching courses - „Heritage legislation and practice", „Economy and culture".
2006-2008 – an observer in the Project of the Lithuanian Museums' Association „ The development of competences and skills of the 21st century museum employees"
2007 April - 2008 March - chairperson of Lithuanian Restorers' Union.
Since 13 March 2008 - Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture
Diana Varnaitė is author of historical publications: „People of Belarus still remember resting-place of Lithuanian soldiers" (Pasaulio lietuvis", 1995), „Heritage protection after 11 March 1990 ("Kultūros paminklų enciklopedija. Rytų Lietuva", vol. 1), as well publications on heritage protection issues in the National Lithuanian Encyclopaedia.
In 1993 internship in France. In 1996 graduated from the international summer school „Academy of Nesvyzius-96"and defended the thesis "Differences and similarities of the legal protection of monuments, including cemeteries, in Lithuania and Poland"
